By Train

Travelling by train combines safety with affordability. Greece’s railway network spans approximately 2,500 km, covering the greater part of the mainland. The transport of passengers, luggage and vehicles is provided through regularly scheduled services, updated annually.

The Athens-Thessaloniki line is an excellent choice; the express service completes the journey in just 4.5 hours. For those seeking scenery, the route from Drama to Xanthi is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Designed in the 19th century, it winds through breathtaking landscapes along the Nestos River, passing sugar-coloured banks and lush, verdant surroundings.

Reaching the Peloponnese: Travel to the Peloponnese is simple via the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) to Kiato. From this terminus (30 km west of Corinth), passengers can board dedicated National Railway buses to reach various cities and villages.

Suburban Railway (Proastiakos): Connecting major urban centres with the suburbs through frequent and affordable services, the Proastiakos meets the needs of thousands of commuters while helping to decentralise and reduce road traffic.
